Endometriosis

Description
Endometriosis is caused by the growth of uterine lining (endometrium) outside of the uterus. Designed to react to hormonal influence, the endometrial material continues to follow the monthly cycle, bleeding during Menstruation. When bleeding occurs in the uterus, it is normally expelled through the vagina. When bleeding occurs outside of the uterus, however, it becomes trapped in the tissue. This leads to Inflammation and scarring, with the possibility of Infertility.

Endometriosis may not exhibit any symptoms; or it may cause extreme Cramps, Painful intercourse, bleeding in between periods, or Infertility. The cause of endometriosis remains unknown. Some theories speculate that the endometrium is spread outside the uterus due to intercourse during Menstruation, use of tampons, or a tipped uterus.
